sniping detail (Sniping)

Sniping

Sniping is a deliberate long-range firearm action from a committed rooftop
firing position. It is separate from ordinary combat.

The basic sequence is:

    aim <direction>
    snipe <target>

For a called shot:

    snipe <target> <bodypart>

Examples:

    aim north
    snipe guard
    snipe guard chest
    snipe Jane Doe head
    snipe Jane Doe right eye

REQUIREMENTS

A distant sniper firing line requires:

    the Sniper Edge;
    a sniper-capable firearm;
    a magnified scope mounted on that firearm;
    a valid rooftop firing position and sightline.

The exact firearm used to establish the committed sniper aim remains the
committed weapon for that posture. Losing or replacing that weapon invalidates
the posture.

COMMITTED AIM

A special rooftop sniper aim is a committed firing posture.

While maintaining it, movement is blocked. Use:

    aim stop

to lower the weapon and release the committed posture.

Firing a sniper shot does not itself discard the committed rooftop aim.

FIRING

Each snipe command resolves exactly one firearm attack attempt through the
normal firearm, anatomy, armor, wound and death systems.

Sniping does not start ordinary persistent combat and does not schedule
automatic repeated attacks.

There is a short firing cadence between sniper shots. If you fire again too
quickly, the game tells you approximately how long remains.

Called shots use the normal called-shot rules in addition to the sniper shot's
own difficulty.

An already-dead target cannot be shot again with snipe.

IDENTITY AND CONSEQUENCES

Long-range fire does not automatically reveal the shooter's identity to
everyone.

An unsuppressed shot may expose activity at the firing position through its
acoustic signature. A suppressor can prevent acoustic source localization, but
it does not make a shooting consequence-free.

People physically present with the shooter may still see and identify them.
The victim-side incident still exists even when the shooter cannot be
identified from the shot itself.

Knowing where a shot came from and knowing who fired it are separate pieces of
information.
