Vehicle stations are physical positions inside a vehicle.
Being inside a vehicle, sitting at a station, and operating that station are
three different states.
Physical position:
sit in <seat>
stand
Examples:
sit in driver
sit in passenger
sit in gunner
A seat may be an ordinary passenger position or a functional station such as
driver, pilot, copilot, gunner, or NET.
Operating a station:
control
uncontrol
When the first Character enters an otherwise empty vehicle through an entrance
containing its primary driver or pilot station, normal boarding automatically
seats that Character in the physical operator seat and takes control of it.
This automatic control does not start the vehicle and does not grant
ignition authority.
If somebody is already aboard, a later entrant is not moved into the operator
seat and never displaces its occupant. Functional stations may still be
occupied normally and then operated with control.
control itself never chooses or moves you into a station.
uncontrol releases the controls while leaving you physically seated.
Standing, moving away, or otherwise leaving the station invalidates your
control of it.
Primary propulsion:
start
shutoff
After taking active control of a driver or pilot station, start attempts
to start that Vehicle and shutoff attempts to shut it off.
Legitimate ignition authority is required. Access authority alone is not
ignition authority.
Starting or shutting off a normally operable Vehicle is not itself a Driving
or Piloting check.
Functional copilot, gunner, NET, sensor, or other secondary stations do not
gain primary propulsion authority merely because they can use control.
Passenger positions have no controls.
The station you occupy determines which vehicle systems you can operate.
Available driving, flight, sensor, weapon, NET, and other controls depend on
the vehicle and its installed equipment.
