Vehicle Security, Bypass, and Hotwiring
Vehicle ownership, authorization, physical locking, installed security
hardware, station control, and current possession are separate systems.
Legitimate access
Characters with legitimate access authority use:
lock <vehicle>
unlock <vehicle>
A physically locked Vehicle blocks normal entry until its lock is released.
Access authority lets you operate the legitimate lock. It does not let you
walk through a still-locked Vehicle.
Exterior bypass
To attempt to defeat a locked Vehicle's physical access control:
bypass <vehicle>
You must be physically outside beside the Vehicle.
The current bypass procedure uses Intrusion against the installed physical
security controller.
Intrusion 0 is untrained and cannot attempt this procedure.
Success releases the physical exterior lock.
It does not:
transfer registered ownership
grant access authorization
grant ignition authorization
create a universal stolen/hacked flag
After the lock is released, use normal physical entry:
get in <vehicle>
A physical bypass attempt may be visible to Characters present nearby.
Legitimate start versus hotwire
The normal ignition command is:
start
Without ignition authority, start remains rejected even after you have
physically entered the Vehicle and taken its primary controls.
To attempt physical ignition defeat:
hotwire
You must already be physically inside the Vehicle and actively controlling its
driver or pilot station.
The current hotwire procedure uses Intrusion against the installed
physical ignition interlock.
Success starts propulsion.
It does not:
transfer registered ownership
grant access authorization
grant ignition authorization
create a permanent credential
Characters in the same physical interior may observe the attempt.
Installed security hardware
Current production civilian compact Vehicles normally contain the physical:
Factory Security Controller
Its current capabilities are:
access_control
ignition_interlock
The current first-playtest Difficulty for both stock capabilities is D16.
That D16 is authored on the individual controller capabilities. It is not a
universal Vehicle security rating or security tier.
Current scope
Vehicle-5 does not yet implement:
alarms
failed-attempt lockout
failure damage
timed/channeled bypass duration
Lock Expert bypass-kit interaction
universal Vehicle security tiers
remote Hacking of ordinary non-network-exposed access/ignition controls
Those are later extensions and must compose real installed hardware/interfaces
when implemented.
