crane detail (Crane)
Boiler Run Crane
The Boiler Run crane is controlled over radio band 27.0.
The crane is a physical moving room. Someone may be standing inside it,
so movement orders have real physical consequences.
Calling the crane
Tune a usable radio to band 27.0 and address the crane or its operator.
Examples:
crane, take her to the 5th
operator, bring her to the top
boiler run, take her to the 13th
hoist, bring her down two
Ordinary radio chatter is ignored unless it actually addresses the crane.
Destinations
The crane serves floors 2 through 17.
You can give a floor directly:
crane, 6th floor
crane, take her to fourteen
crane, seventeenth
Common destination names also work:
crane, top
crane, dock
crane, Queen's level
Relative movement is supported:
crane, up one
crane, down two
crane, lower her by three
Read-back and confirmation
Relative movement is read back before the car moves.
Example:
You: crane, down two
Crane: That puts her at the 4th. Confirm?
You: confirmed
While a valid read-back is pending, you do not need to address the crane
again. A short confirmation such as:
yes
confirmed
roger
go ahead
can answer the pending read-back.
The confirmation window is temporary. A confirmation when no read-back is
pending does not move the crane.
Whole-word orders
The crane distinguishes actual command words from pieces of other words.
For example:
crane, stop
does not mean:
crane, top
Likewise, words such as "playground" do not mean "ground".
Operator requirement
The console does not operate the crane by itself.
If nobody capable is physically on duty at the crane console, the work band
goes unanswered. The crane does not silently substitute an automated
operator.
