Clone Services

Clone coverage must be purchased before death at a physical clone-services
terminal.

Buying a clone

At a clone facility, use:

    use terminal

The terminal presents:

    Buy Clone
    Exit

Choosing Buy Clone displays only the replacement bodies currently offered by
that provider, along with their current prices.

Select the replacement body you want to purchase.

On a successful purchase, an automated sampling arm swings down from the
terminal and draws blood with a needle. That sample establishes your current
continuity backup and the replacement-body contract attached to it.

If you already have clone coverage, purchasing another clone is a full-price
replacement. Your existing clone remains authoritative unless the replacement
transaction succeeds completely.

You may have only one authoritative clone contract and backup at a time.

Updating your backup

Return to the same provider holding your current clone and use:

    update

You do not need to enter the Buy Clone menu to update an existing backup.

A successful update causes the terminal's automated sampling arm to draw
another blood sample and replaces your previous saved continuity snapshot with
your current eligible state.

Updating the snapshot does not purchase a different replacement body or
change the provider holding your clone.

The update fee is calculated from that provider's currently configured update
rate and the original purchase price of your clone.

Medical eligibility

A continuity snapshot cannot be taken while you have active drugs or other
active substance effects in your system.

A continuity snapshot also cannot be taken while you are actively
withdrawing.

These restrictions apply when purchasing a clone and when updating an
existing backup.

If the sample cannot produce a viable continuity snapshot, the operation is
refused rather than updating your stored backup.

Provider restriction

Your existing backup must be updated at the provider where that clone is
stored.

For example, a clone purchased from 2nd Chance must be updated at a 2nd Chance
clone terminal.

Going to another provider and using `update` does not transfer your clone.
To change providers or replacement-body products, purchase a new clone through
that provider's terminal.

Important

Clone coverage and your saved continuity snapshot are separate from the
physical body you are currently walking around in.

Buying or updating a clone does not heal injuries, replace equipment, or
physically move your current character.
